Case report

Following images and video show a case of hypoplastic left heart syndrome caused by combined mitral and aortic atresia diagnosed at 23 weeks of gestation.

Images 1, 2: 23 weeks of gestation; the images show transverse scan of the fetal thorax at the level of the four-chamber view of the heart with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (left ventricle is diminutive - LV, atretic mitral valve can be seen - arrow). RV - right ventricle, RA - right ventricle, LA - left atrium.

Images 3, 4: 23 weeks of gestation; the images show transverse scan of the fetal thorax at the level of the three-vessel-trachea view. Pulmonary artery is clearly seen (PA) without aortic component of the 3-vessel view.

Videos 1, 2: 23 weeks of gestation; the videos show color doppler scans of the fetal thorax with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The left ventricle is diminutive without color flow. During the sweep from the four-chamber-view to the level of the three-vessel-view of the heart the aortic component is barely seen filled in reversed direction (red flow).
