Atrioventricular septal defect with bilateral pleural effusion

Case report

A 23-year old woman (G2P1) was referred to our office to complete fetal cardiac assessment due to suspected cardiac anomaly.

Ultrasound examination at 24 weeks of gestation revealed balanced common AV canal (common AV valve, large inlet VSD, primum ASD) with bilateral pleural effusion and short nasal bone.

Amniocentesis was done and genetic analysis revealed trisomy 21. The parents opted for termination.

Images 1, 2, 3, 4 videos 1, 2: 2D images show common AV canal in systolic and diastolic frames representing linear alignment of AV valves with absent tricuspid apical offsetting.
