Case report

A 39-year-old-woman (G2P1, first child with Down syndrome), with non-contributive family history, came to our clinic for a routine mid-trimester ultrasound at 18-19 weeks of pregnancy.

Our examination revealed massively enlarged left ventricle of the fetal heart with outpouching of the left side of the ventricle, measuring about 28 mm, with minimal contractility, corresponding to aneurysm of the left ventricle.

The parents opted for the termination of the pregnancy. The diagnosis of the aneurysm of the left ventricle was confirmed by pathological examination.

Images 1, 2: The images and videos show enlarged left ventricle of the heart with aneurysmatic outpouching of the lateral wall. The videos show that the aneurysm does not contract during the systole, but instead expands little bit, which may imitate preserved contractility.
